Parameter Setting Fix Leads to Increased Production

Wind turbine performance analysis is a complex process. Not only are the wind conditions constantly changing, but the turbine is also operating under control settings and software which are also dynamic. This poses challenges for analysts and performance managers.

Borusan EnBW Enerji is one of the largest wind energy owners in Turkey. They have been working with i4SEE for more than one year and performance analysis is one of the main areas of focus for the Borusan team.

In one recent case, the i4SEE Performance™ application was used to automatically detect and diagnose an unexpected curtailment event on one of the turbines. This curtailment was not related to the protection of a main component and also not caused by grid regulations. Significant energy loss was caused by limitations to the power output at higher wind conditions of above 10 m/s.

Through follow-up investigation work by the skilled Borusan team, it was determined that this was due to an incorrect power & load parameter setting. The parameters were changed to the correct settings and the turbine’s performance was checked for several months following the change.
